Mod Release: Permanent Tooltip Font Size Increase (Updated for V1.5)

This mod was created for players who struggle to read small in-game text or who prefer a more comfortable, accessible UI. The previous guide method required users to manually edit game files, and the changes would reset after every update or file verification.
This standalone mod permanently increases tooltip font size and remains active through updates—no manual editing required.

The mod has now been improved with Version 1.5, bringing additional accessibility upgrades requested by the community.

[NEW] V1.5 Update Notes

1) Enlarged Quest Text (Top-Right Corner)
The quest/objective text displayed at the top-right of the screen has been enlarged for clear visibility.
Reading objectives and completing missions is now much easier.

2) Enlarged Compass Icons
Icons on the compass—such as your waypoint marker, bedroll, home symbol, and the NESW direction labels—are now larger and more visible.

Note:
I personally use the game in Turkish, but regardless of which language you use, the icons and text will still scale correctly. There is no need to worry — the mod works with all languages.

Installation

Download the ZIP file (Download link is at the bottom of the guide).

Extract the ZIP.

Move the extracted mod folder into your game's “Mods” directory.

Default Mods folder path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die\Mods

Once placed correctly, launch the game and enjoy the permanently enhanced UI.

Optional Customization (Editing windows.xml)

If you want to change the tooltip font size manually:

Go to:
...\Mods\FontSizeMod\Config\XUi\windows.xml

Edit the value inside this line:
<set xpath="/windows/window[@name='toolTip']/rect/label[@name='lblText']/@font_size">50</set>

Examples:
• 35 = moderately large
• 60–70 = very large and easy to read

Save the file and restart the game.

Future Plans

Upcoming versions aim to add an in-game settings menu for adjusting text size without editing any files.
Thank you for using the mod — I hope it improves your gameplay comfort and accessibility.

Home renovation is very tiring, I wish you ease and I look forward to your response as soon as possible. Yes, STEAM didn't allow it, but I will try again; maybe it was a one-time error.

Wait, wut? Steam should allow you to 'edit' your guide... so, you could add the link to Nexus. Or, are you saying it won't allow a link in your guide that goes outside of Steam? I'm not sure on that... been too long since I did a guide. It should allow it though unless they've made some newer rule on that? Yeah... when I get the chance to play 7d2d again, I'll give you some feedback on it. I suspect others will beat me to it though. I've been working on house remodeling these days.

You're welcome, what do you mean? I hope this mod will be useful. Can you send feedback when you install the game? For example, if you see a small text, let me know and I'll try to enlarge it. Additionally, STEAM doesn't allow it, so I can only put the Nexus Mods link in the comments, but I also updated the Google Drive link.

Cool! You should add that Nexus link in your main Guide. It's likely to get missed here in the comments. Thx again for your efforts.

Hi, I'll check the Google Drive link, don't worry, but the mod already has a page on the Nexus Mods website.

If you create a separate folder just for sharing stuff--so others can download it--they won't be running into this problem with not being able to view the files you've intended to be available for public download. For example, I just create a folder named 'Sharing' and set it's permissions to 'Public.' But, then you need to alter / refine that folders permission setting(s) so others cannot modify what you place there--in that folder. However, done right, they should be able to download it--without having to request permission from you first... like how it does currently. The other option would be to use a different hosting site.. like Nexus for example. A lot of times, if people run into an issue trying to click on a download link, they just abort and say forget it... which wouldn't be ideal.

Thank you for your feedback. I was also having vision problems and my motivation for making this mod was that I wanted people to be able to play the games comfortably. I also can't play games like Witcher because of the text. If there is a part you find missing in my mod or a text you can't see, please share it with me so I can add it.

Nice! Great job and thanks. I'm one of them old foggy's that can't see too great. As a result, about half of my RPG's I own, I can't even play cuz all the messages and / or UI menus are too tiny to read for me. Kinda sux owning a ton of games and not even able to play half of them due to poor design choice on behalf of the devs for those games.

The tooltip font size fix that many of you requested is now officially available as a standalone mod. You no longer need to manually edit game files—just install the mod and it will permanently increase the tooltip text size, even after updates or file verification.

You can now use the fix safely and easily in mod form.
Download, install, and enjoy improved readability in 7 Days to Die.
