Cargo Handler

Description
Cargo Hauler serves a single purpose: Gather and Haul the cargo drops from a combat sector to a safe station.

For example, in "Hatikvah's Choice" I typically build up a defense station next to the Xenon gate which will generate lots of cargo and inventory drops. The vanilla jobs are not very useful to automate this type of gathering and hauling.
Defense base example

Make sure your storage station is selling or using the accumulated cargo.

I prefer using medium size ships, but the large ships will also work if they are equipped with cargo drones.

The mod shouldn’t feel like cheating since it operates entirely through vanilla commands.

You will have to configure the default behavior of the selected ship:
(1) Select a Ship
Open your map screen and choose a ship equipped with cargo storage.

(2) Access Behavior Settings
Go to the Behavior tab in the info panel and click the Default Behavior button.

(3) Assign Job Role
In the popup window, select the Cargo Hauler job.

(4) Set Home Sector
Continue configuring the job by designating the HOME sector you want to keep clear.

(5) Choose Drop-Off Station
Select the station where cargo will be delivered. This can be in another zone, but ensure the station has storage
modules.

(6) Define Cargo Types
Pick the specific cargo types you want hauled. If no selection is made, the ship will collect all cargo by default.

(7) Adjust Cargo-Only Option
- When enabled, pickups are limited to cargo.
- When disabled, the ship will also collect inventory wares (small items carried by players or pilots).
- To manage these wares, you can use an inventory gatherer mod or periodically visit the ship and request the pilot to hand them over.

(8) Enable Notifications
Turn on notifications to generate log entries whenever cargo is successfully deposited.


This mod doesn't require a new game start.

There are no known compatibility issues with any other mods, also uninstalling shall not affect your save games.

It would be amazing if there was an option to 'assign to station'... having ships in my "unassigned" list running assigned jobs bothers me

Yeah I'm using more of the vanilla functions as well. I notice that once the building has atleast 1 structure, the "work for builder" works very well. But the problem is getting the initial materials to the building so that it can create that 1 structure lol. I usually manually select a trader and have them deliver the scarce resources to the build location until it meets the 1 structure threshold

Hebrux: I think the default 'work for builder' should work properly unless you have a noob pilot/manager and the station range halts operations. I will think about it, but recently I have been playing the vanilla to get the latest default experience and this part of X4 seems to be OKish now (of course it could be better, like the system could tell you why a specific transfer cannot be completed to help the player adjust their station network).
