Use program without launching Steam? I'm computer stupid.
Hi! I recently bought and installed Aseprite and wanted to use it offline.I found the post by the dev telling me how to do that, but I didn't understand what to do because I'm a bit computer illiterate (ctrl+click, properties, local files, browse local files.....then what?). So in the simplest terms detailed enough for a baby to understand, can anybody help me out please?

EDIT: Here is a link to the post http://test1.login.steam.hlxgame.cc/app/431730/discussions/0/152390648079925737/

Step 1 would be providing a link to the post you're asking us to explain in simple terms for you.

My bad, I edited the post and put a link up there.

The Steam version is exactly the same as the portable/standalone one. Aseprite is DRM-free, so you don't need to start Steam to execute it. You can create a direct shortcut to the executable file to avoid starting Steam when you run Aseprite. To do so go to Aseprite properties on Steam (right-click Aseprite on Steam, or Ctrl+click on macOS), and select Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files.

If you still prefer the standalone version, you should buy Aseprite from the website: https://www.aseprite.org/download/

Ok. So what he is giving you here is directions to finding the file on your system. Let me break this down step by step:

  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click on Aseprite in your Steam Library.
  • You'll see a menu. Click Properties.
  • You'll see a new window open up. Click on the tab that says "Local Files".
  • You'll see a few buttons. Click the one that says "Browse Local Files".
  • This will open a Finder window where Aseprite is saved.
  • You can run the game by double-clicking that program.
  • You can also right click on that program and create a shortcut by selecting "Make Alias". If you do, move the Alias somewhere you can find it

I tried that and while I was able to open it, the program still had to launch Steam before I could use it.

I found Aseprite.exe in the Steam > steamapps > common folder, right-click -> Send To Desktop, and run it from there, and so far it runs on its own now without Steam.

I like this option as it can be quite annoying having to load up Steam first etc before I can get to the program to do something.

Current Version: 1.3.15.5x64
(Windows)

You really bumped a thread in the mac forums from 2017 asking how to run the game on a mac without launching steam just to tell everyone you use windows?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
