The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered is amazing. I haven't been this addicted to a game since The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.

The worst thing about this game is that it's actually good and I don't have the time to play like I used to.

Sometime in 2006 I traded my old systems and games to get me and my brother a copy of this game. The minute we both stepped out the sewers into this world we were mesmerized. For 2 years we sat so many weekends playing all through the night exploring, laughing and making memories I cling tightly to. He got sick years ago and during his last days mentioned “man if I could just experience that world with you for the first time again it would be so amazing”. He died days later. When I booted this game up and the monologue hit my excitement was through the roof but my heart broke into pieces because the chair beside me was empty. He never got to see this. I love you my brother. I miss you forever and hope you see this and explore with me in spirit.

One of the few games I didn't hesitate to get! Like I mentioned I was introduced to it together with my brother, and later introduced my uncle to it. Neither one of them lived to see this beautiful re-creation, but despite my heart hurting I'm here to play it for them, for the late nights we won’t have again, for the frustrations, and the laughs! "It just works." I find it amazing that they captured the original experience and yet made it feel fresh and new. It's by far the best remaster of any game I've ever seen and it's not even close. The game itself is also just amazing as long as you're not one of the tik tok brain rotted kids who think any game made before 2016 is "too dated". Keep in mind that the original game came out during a time when open world RPG games were not that common, so the level of immersion was extremely high. Now, almost every game is open world, but not many can capture the same level of depth as ES4 and ES5. This is a game that offers a large variety of options to the player.

If your PC can run it, Oblivion Remastered is an absolutely flawless masterpiece that rivals Morrowind as the best game in the series, boasting a vast array of amazing lootable items, spells, gear, and weapons, all enhanced by timeless nostalgia, interesting characters, and hilarious unfixed jank. Its incredible story and dreamlike environments, breathtaking visuals and stellar gameplay cement it as one of the greatest single-player RPGs, video games and remasters of all time, and a timeless classic that everyone on planet earth should experience.

I think this should show studios that people are hungry for this genre of games. Imagine a 20 year old games selling this well with just an unreal engine lipstick. Imagine if a studio actually put effort into making an open world first person RPG but actual good combat something bethesda will never do. With modern features. But no let’s make another looter shooter or the 29th soul roller slasher. All while this genre is begging to be used. Imagine Bethesda not even touching it for several years and no one getting the memo. It still floors me that with the success of the Elder Scrolls games, no other developer has managed to come up with a fantasy RPG game that matches the open world freedom they give. It’s clear there is a huge market hungry for it!

It's a superb game. It really respects the original while making it modern enough to be able to enjoy it in today's world of gaming. It has that old charm, but it still feels decent enough to look past the worst jank or even have fun with it like we used to do with most things. The only issue apparently is performance, and I do hope they update that, though personally I did not any issues (and there are some "mods" to help a bit with that too). Love it, Oblivion strikes such a good balance overall. In all fairness unless game breaking, the bugs do not even need to be fixed. This EXQUISITE remaster is a portal back in time 20 years. The game that we all loved but now made prettier with some QOL changes. The moment I walked out of that sewer, I was 16 again sitting next to my brother. The music, the world, the jank, it all is a part of what made Oblivion ICONIC. The remaster just reinforces how much lesser in so many ways Skyrim is.

The skill, attribute, and leveling changes are actual game changers. I tried to play Oblivion again recently and it was just hard despite the fact I remembered loving it in 2006 so much I was playing it day in and day out for years. The changes made feel like what the original developers intended the Oblivion leveling to be. It's fun, intuitive, and feels rewarding. Like other reviews mention, technically in OG Oblivion you could get more attribute points overall, but at the cost of being behind an extremely min/max system that isn't fun to manage whatsoever. Despite knowing Oblivion inside and out, I have been completely absorbed into the game. When I'm at work I just look forward to going home and returning to my adventure. They nailed the balance between maintaining the charm of Oblivion and offering a visual orgasm. People loved oblivion because it was a quirky mess packed with charm. To have done anything to have meddled with that would have ruined it. It's f**king incredible. Captures the same magic I felt playing it for the first time.

It's absolutely a success as a remaster, it's very much got that "done by fans" feel and the trailer really did a good job of conveying that respect for what made the game good. They didn't turn it into Skyrim, but they somehow gave it an upgrade that still feels Oblivion. I have quite literally never seen this approach to remastering a 3D game; the entire base game is present, wrapped by Unreal Engine. It's really incredible how well this works because I was really worried it was going to feel like a generic UE game made to look like Oblivion. And I look forward to seeing other games get this treatment.

For new fans: I would say with some modesty that it's a good buy. It’s very much a "chill RPG" like Fable or BOTW, where you CAN be challenged, but the point of the game is more about adventuring than making a perfect build or leveling in a certain crazy way. I would say confidently it's one of if not the best open world games in terms of lush pretty aesthetic, the world is so varied compared to Skyrim and feels quite larger in my opinion even though it's objectively a bit smaller. Most of the big fans of Oblivion like it because of the in-depth RP flexibility. Note I said RP; not builds. Mods can give you in-depth combat but by default its pretty generic and hack/slashy. But game just has such great soil for character role playing. Wayyy better than Skyrim's world and that says a lot.

If you can get into a chill RPG that encourages imagination and enjoying things for aesthetic or story (often a bit silly Monty Pythonesque but still pretty cool), it's a fantastic game. The goofier and more surreal approach to quest writing is honestly refreshing compared to Skyrim's more straightforward "chosen one come help us save / rule the world" writing. Oblivion's writing is more generic on purpose, to suit the DnD approach to roleplaying. It's also definitely a fairly easy game unless you crank the difficulty up to annoying spam levels. But it's a gorgeous game, really easy to pick up and play randomly, and the magic system is probably what aged the best.

Finally, Oblivion to me has always been, will always be a 10/10 every damn blemish and flaw and all. Idgaf this has always been one of the best games l've ever played and now it's better. If you want to criticize it based on how they handled the remake then it's a 9.5 until the bugs are squashed then it would be a 10 again. I'm right and you're wrong, you're allowed to be wrong.
