It's totally gratuitous blow-'em up action against giant insects and alien invaders in giant robots and flying saucers, and I kind of love it. With a tone something like a cross between old Japanese kaiju/sentai action, 1950s/1960s "army VS alien invaders" drive in movies, and just a touch of Verhoeven's Starship Troopers (mostly in terms of the news report voiceovers), this game manages to be fun and upbeat even as cities get levelled with hordes of screaming humans trying to escape the monstrous threats on their lives. But hey, that's why you're there, right? It's fun, frenetic, there's hordes of enemies, wide selections of weapons (though these have to be acquired through gameplay, and are random drops, getting and trying a new weapon is always fun).
Four playable classes exist; I've mostly played as a ranger, think "soldier equipped with his courage and big guns". There are also Fencers (think heavily armed and armoured battlesuits) which they describe rightfully as "for more advanced users", as their control scheme is a bit odd and requires using special abilities in tricky to master combos for fast movement, Wing Divers who are fast aerial units that rely on speed and maneuverability to position themselves to do maximum damage (definitely glass cannons, and for people who are comfortable with a very acrobatic movement playstyle), and a fourth "artillery spotter" class that do most of their damage by things like calling in airstrikes and making it easier for teammates to hit with long range weapons in multiplayer. I've not played the latter two yet, so I can't give any opinion on their viability.
It's a fun game, the graphics are a little bit dated, but you're probably not going to care too much as you'll be too busy taking down the hordes of bugs and aliens you've sworn to protect Earth from. That's your job, soldier! E D F! E D F!

For anyone wanting to play a Diablo or Torchlight like game experience in the Warhammer 40k universe, this may be the one for you. Bonus points for gorgeous level designs by people who have an obvious love of the game, as well as a great ambient soundtrack to back it up. You can easily lose hours in this without even trying.

Deep lore, fun gameplay and being a space wizard with guns... what's not to love?

Got this as a Christmas present, and after the 10 or so hours I put into the game in the first two days, my first question became "Why did I wait so long?"

As a longtime 40k fan, this game has probably captured better than any other the feel of that universe, and while the gameplay may or may not satisfy the hardcore online multiplayer shooter crowd, it sure seems to have captured the hearts of 40k fans out there; when you're in an Exterminatus mission and your team mates are calling out "For the Emperor!" and "Purge the xenos!" in chat, you know you're amongst friends.

Not without its bugs and rough edges, but for the real Warhammer 40,000 fan, it's definitely a real homecoming of a game.

If you like the darker, more sinister side of the Warhammer 40k universe, this game may be for you. While the production values may feel a bit dated, the overall gameplay is fast and the AI enough to keep you on your toes. There's also plenty of different ways to do things and to level your character; in a lot of ways, it pays tribute to the original Deux Ex that way. The character dialogue can be a bit stiff, the animations are a bit behind the curve, but you'll find yourself having fun figuring out all kinds of ways to hack, blow up, and cajole your way through your missions, and figure out the secrets of E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy.
