Because its pretty worthy, some times u can find some playble galactic adventures but they are always same so i tihnk u do not have to buy if u are not fan of spore

I just skipped that step and it let me play, on the original spore anyway. Not sure if the expansion makes u get it but I didn't have to

To copy another commenter:
To create an online account you have to go through extra steps because it is the steam addition.

To create an online acount you must:
Download the origin app
Login to origin
Then on steam open the key code of the spore galactic adventures game
In the origin app you must reddeem this product key (the option is in the drop down 'origin' menu)
Finish the registration of the game on origin

THEN you can exit origin and relaunch the game in steam
When the game launches you can then create an account with your EA login (your origin login)

If you don't do redeem the prodcut key with origin it will just keep saying unknown error when you attempt to login upon launching the game, making it impossible to connect to the online aspect of the game which is really key in the galactic adventures!
