8/10

What an amazing game design! This is the absolute fun you can have in a co-op game. I don't even know how the devs manage to use the engine to its peak like this, and how they came up with the concept of some of the levels. The creativity amazed me every step of the way. The last chapter especially absolutely blew our minds.

Unfortunately, the story and the dialogues are horrendous. Sometimes the banter between Zoe and Mio was unbearable, especially the millennial-coded bad humor and the terrible puns every 5 minutes. Shallow villain and shallow motives. The "emotional" moments didn't hit because of the bad dialogues.

I really hope that Hazelight Studios will pay as much attention to the story and writing of their games as they do to the level/game design in the future.

My Review of Dragon Age: Veilguard - 6/10

This review is probably biased because I’ve been a huge fan of the series since Origins, and I’ve been waiting nearly a decade for this game to finally release. In the end, it gave me most of what I wanted. But again, this is coming from a die-hard Dragon Age fan, so take it with a pinch of salt.

The Good
Combat: I really enjoyed the combat, especially as a mage. It felt smooth and satisfying, without being overly complicated.

UI & Simplicity: The UI, armor sets, and upgrade system were good. Everything is simple and streamlined, which I personally loved. There’s no need to constantly manage inventory or deal with unnecessary clutter. If you prefer clean, straightforward systems like I do, you’ll appreciate this.

Story: The main storyline stood out for me. The parts focusing on Solas and the Evanuris were especially strong. Some of the side missions were enjoyable too.

World Design: The locations are absolutely gorgeous, and exploring them was a lot of fun. Even the puzzles struck a good balance—interesting without being frustrating.

Aesthetics: The armor designs, the simplicity of upgrades, and even the HAIR customization and physics were on point. Everything just looked and felt right.

Pacing: The game moves at a good pace, and the simplicity works in its favor rather than making it feel lackluster. Some people might prefer more complexity, but I think it’s all about personal preference.

The Not-So-Good
Writing: At times, the writing felt weak or rushed, though there were moments where it really shone—especially in the main story missions. The issue is that the companion stories felt disjointed, like they were written by completely different people, which made their tone and quality inconsistent.

Dialogue Options: The dialogue system feels like it gives you options, but in reality, all paths lead to the same result. It’s frustrating when you can’t truly express different tones or emotions.

Approval System: The companion approval system felt meaningless. It didn’t seem to impact relationships much, and there weren’t enough game-changing decisions to make me feel like my choices mattered.

Enemy Variety: The enemies and bosses got repetitive fast. There were only about five main types, and they just kept reappearing.

Final Thoughts
If you’re new to Dragon Age, don't start with this one. Start with Origins and follow all the games through first—it’s the best way to understand the series and its world.

For long-time fans, though, Veilguard is an okay ride that delivers on many fronts but lacks equally in many aspects, it has too many flaws to ignore. For me, the nostalgia and strong points outweighed the negatives, but it’s hard to ignore the weaker aspects like some of the writing and limited choices.

Overall, it’s an okay addition to the series, just not what I was hoping for after all these years. Thus, I give it a 6/10. (I would give it a 5/10 but I added a point as a Solavellan.)

I used to love Overwatch 1 so much, but now...
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
