I've played every total war to date and although many are saying this is the best one yet I can't agree. Rome 2 in its current state takes the cake there for me. Do I like it? Definitely. It's something new and refreshing and the addition of flying and monstrous units is great fun. The Lord and legendary Lord skill tree is deep and I would like to see this kept in the new games. That said this game made buildings too simple (although the building tree view is nice), small town battles are removed for some reason, no naval combat, diplomacy is still balanced weird, and the siege battles are just ridoculas. Towers have insane range and damage, and you can only attack on one front, removing most of the strategy of the battle.

Overall I would recommend the game for someone who like Wargamers or someone new to total war. If you are experienced in total war and what something with deep strategy this isn't the ideal title for you.

If you've been waiting for a proper follow up to the first Rome Total War, this is it.

Filled with extrodinatry graphics, updated UI, politics system, diplomacy, AI, combined land and naval battles, more factions, and the list goes on. In fact, the only thing that this total war game wasn't able to improve on was the hopelessly broken siege gameplay. Perhaps one day Creative Assembly will get that one sorted out but until then Rome 2 will easily consume obsene amounts of hours of my life.

Don't let other reviews nit pick this game into infinity. If you loved the other total war games, especially Shogun, you will fall in love once again.
