Fun little Magic school simulator. The different building restrictions types and inclusion of the random option means your forced to adapt your school layout each play through depending on the traits the rooms require.

There is also a lot of combinations you can do with mages and their elements to develop different battle strategies as well as enemies with resistances and weaknesses so taking the same team out for every combat can make some fights more difficult if they encounter something that has resistances to their attacks.

As for progress in the game one thing to keep in mind is that it's a "school". You are suppose to have a high turn over rate with students graduating and getting replaced by new students. Also as you get relics and unlock better wands it gets easier to get higher level students/teachers/relics.

I've played since the very Early Access and seen the game go through a lot of changes. One of the negatives I sometimes hear about end game is regarding the Dragons and Quest line. This was added near release and while it is passible I think some people misunderstand it's use. Sure some quest can raise levels on mages/relics or add other cool benefits it's there as just sort of an option to give a mild boost or sure up a weakness as some quest can only be taken by those low in that skill. The length of the quest and hassle is a min/max nightmare which I think is why some complain. But really it's just a side mechanic that isn't that important and can be easily ignored as I do most of the time just sending whoever is available as it's intentionally made long to prevent abuse of people trying to use quest to min/max.

The real end game in my opinion is the endless halls at the bottom of the dungeon. You have to complete several battles in a time limit with each one harder than the last. This is a great source of shards which are in large demand and better than having to destroy your relics to get. As well as you can farm the Max Level Relics very easily down there.

But before end game the best way to get shards and top tier relics is to train and graduate students with all their Trails completed. Then promote them to Teachers and once their level are maxed retire the Teacher of more shards/relics. Combat is the fastest way to level which is why the endless dungeon addition at the end is so great since not only does it have great loot but gives a reliable training location.

If you don't care about combat challenge you can turn all the combat settings way down and just build a nice casual school. There are plenty of automation tools as I like setting up groups and schedules that allow most of my students to automatically complete their trails. As well as placing containers with item restrictions and high priority near production stations. It makes a huge difference in a large well maintained school. Like making sure food ingrediants are put in kitchen can mean the difference between school starving because cook can't make enough food spending all his time walking to get supplies vs having overflowing pantries because he steps two feet over to get supplies and start cooking the next meal. Same with food being stored in the dining hall to save on eating time. And other things like potion crafting, wand crafting, and etc.

Great Sequel to a Great Game. The new mechanics to each side makes them feel even more unique. The ability to customize capital ships and planets with unique upgrades really opens up more options on how to play your empire.

The game allows for a ton of customization which helps suit a variety of play styles.

If you like hack n slash looter games this is by far the best. I use to be a fan of Diablo series but after D3's many issues and D Mobile it's clear the old king of the hill doesn't know what their doing. PoE is what there series should have become with more customization, loot, and that dark gritty feel.

The developers are also very active with regular updates every 3 months as a new league starts and new game mechanics are introduced.
