Game is incredible

Not sure I'm enjoying it so far. Difficulty feels like end game Hollow Knight #1 which was when the game started getting less fun imo. Will update after I finish it, but as of now I wouldn't recommend the game, just not very fun.

(art and atmosphere are obviously amazing)

Update
With the world stage update they have introduced the following:

- An $8 additional character that is banned from offline tournaments, however allowed to run free in all modes online
- EasyAntiCheat, a measure that was unneeded as this game had no sort of cheating epidemic, however what it does do is reduce performance and disallow mods
- Removed ping indicators from the lobby search, in order to see your opponents bars you now must enter the room first
- Added crossplay with consoles, however no implimentation of a wifi indicator, therefore wifi matches will be majorly increased if you queue up for the already flawed ranked queue with crossplay enabled
- No improvement on their flawed rollback implementation which sets the delay frames to whichever player has the lower frame selected in the options, this creates bad teleporting and input drops in subpar connections. (not to mention it defaults to a very low frame value.)

All this and they did not implement literally any of the well documented and submitted feedback from the community over the last few years, these were all submitted clearly through the official channels recommended by SEGA. World Stage mode and the additional cosmetics are nice, but that's all I can say about it.

As is, I would not recommend this game, the below statements from my previous review are still true, however these are not business practices I would recommend supporting.

It's a mixed bag.

If you're in it for Single Player Content. Then this is the worst version of VF5 by far. Perhaps the World Stage upgrade in October will remedy, but as of now, there's next to nothing in that regard. Customization is locked behind the DLC as well.

If you're in it for the Multiplayer.... ...it's still a mixed bag lol.

Netcode works okay, definitely room for improvement, however most matches I've played have been solid. Finding matches in ranked is pretty hit and miss, not the most populated game.

However if you're willing to join a discord and look for matches through there, there's plenty of people online to play with. Only problem being that they're almost all pretty experienced and you're gonna get destroyed for a long while.

The person I would recommend this game to is someone who's willing to lose for a while to much better players while trying to improve. The game play is great, fastest most difficult fighter I've tried to pick up, yet it still pulls me in. Aforementioned discord community is pretty chill and very helpful for learning, lots of tournaments to enter online. If you're not that kind of person, I would wait for World Stage or just give the game a pass.

Fun gameplay, runs great, scared of how good people will get with portals.

Fantastic fighting game.
Great balance of offense and defense (although defense will take longer to get the hang of)

Netcode holds up great assuming you're not against a wifi warrior and I'm getting matches quickly!

Nice to see snk show up with the complete package!

Engagement Optimized Matchmaking.

Game prioritizes putting you with better or worse teammates based on whether it feels you're up for a win or loss rather than simply aiming for the most competitive possible match.

In unranked, it goes as far as to put you against bots if you've lost a few matches in a row.

This simultaneously makes wins feel unearned and loses feel like you were set up to lose.

Straight up dystopian algorithm gaming.

Really wanted to like this game, but something about the way it feels to control just doesn't work for me. It's hard to explain because the game doesn't suffer from inherent input lag from what I can tell, yet at the same time it feels like my inputs and controls are under water or something.

I don't think its a poorly made game and the dev's rock, but also I just wouldn't recommend this game to anyone with the way it feels to play.

Braindead overagressive gameplay. No interest from devs in making this a game worth playing.

absolutely broken mess, should not have been released in this state. Textures are a mess, frequent crashing, terrible optimization.

Story is horrible, makes you sit through so much to get to actually playing.
Trying to co-op through the story with friends is the most convoluted, horribly laid out process. it's like they were trying to make is as bad as possible.

Gameplay itself is great and theres good in there, but I would recommend waiting until they fix the terrible port.
