If you are looking for a co-op pve multiplayer game that doesn't require hours upon hours of investment before it becomes playable, I would suggest picking up Dustwind.
It's in development, but the core of the game is very playable. It's new and the player base is developing, so it may take a little bit to put a match together if no one on your current friends list plays. If you need people to play with I would suggest searching for the Discord channel as there are quite a few folks that hang out in there.
I'm looking forward to see how the game develops as the community grows.

Nice and mindless. Not the graphic quality of L4D, but it's it's own kind of fun.
