Steam Input Dialog Box - Secure Desktop - Can't Get Rid Of
When trying to Stream game on Laptop(Win10) from Desktop (Win10), I get a Steam Input Dialog Box with the following:

Would you like to accept secure desktop input from Steam?
You must respond to this dialog while sitting at the PC.
If you are seeing this when you aren't using a controller or Steam, In-Home Streaming then you should check your PC for malware,

I am unable to click the "OK" or "CANCEL" buttons.

I have to close the task to get rid of it.

Am I missing something? How can I use Steam In-House Streaming?

Thanks!

Exactly the same problem here. No dialog appears on the screen of the remote machine.

Any solutions?

I have yet to find one

I was using a "normal" Windows 10 account on the server machine. I tried changing the account type to "Administrator" and restarting Steam. I thought at first that it had fixed the problem, but it didn't. Annoying.

Within a RDP connection to the desktop you are trying to stream from you should run this as administrator (create a .bat file containing this text)

tscon 1 /password:1234 /dest:console

where password is the desktop user password
This will instantly disconnect you from a remote desktop but the session on the desktop will remain active so now you can stream from your desktop to your laptop.

This process worked for me. I'm using a PC to stream games from (to my Mac) and there's no monitor on the PC so I have to use RDP for access.

Anybody know of a way to reverse this, whenever I use steam link app now it essentially mirrors my desktop. closing the app leaves my desktop open and unlocked ...

This worked for me by running this command from the RDP session. I ended up not specifying the password parameter. Thanks!

You need to unlock your PC. This is possible when using a remote client that does NOT automatically after the session. I personally recomend VNC server for this. Teamviewer should work the same.

You can RDP into your PC, install VNC, connect from your client to the host and then play.
I know this is not ideal since you have an additional client on your machine, but it's still better than leaving the PC without a password.

I am having the same problem when trying to use Steam app on my iPad to play games on my desktop, which is running Windows 10 Pro.

I am not using Remote Desktop. I'm using the Steam app.

This issue seems to only happen on Windows 10 PRO, on mother other PC, with Windows 10, everything works smoothly.

If anyone else has this problem I think it's to do with the windows 10 Pro security settings.

If you go to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options on the machine you're streaming from and disable "User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for elevation" this seems to fix the issue.

Some additional guidance from Microsoft here:

This happened to me on a VM. The way I solved it was that I restarted my VM, and I didn't get the dialog box. granted, there is no password on the VM!

In my case, this was resolved by closing the login on another device, which I had forgotten about.

I had this same problem when trying to connect from a Mac to PC via Steam Link. I tried cthulhumythos approach but that didn't work and also a punch of other things. However, what worked for me was annoyingly simple but might not work for others who use VM for example. So, after i tried almost for two hours to solve the problem here's what i did:

when i started "steam link" from my mac and after i made the connection to the host (pc) and after this annoying window was popping up, i just used the mouse that was connected to the pc to close the window! my pc is about a meter away from the mac. I mainly use this setup because i want to get rid of a second monitor which takes up too much space.

felt quite stupid after this :steamhappy: but I'm happy that it works now.
