Typhoon857:

The Witcher 2 final code was changed at the 11th hour by CDProjekt Red and needed to be propagated to the Steam servers internationally hours before it was set to be released. This is well documented in the Steam forums if you care to look.

Pre-loading is developer and publisher specific, not game popularity specific, though expected popularity does influence the publisher's decisions. I'm sure Square Enix made sure final code delivery and pre-load options on Steam were a priority given the massive marketing effort they've put behind this game.

It is possible Steam specifically requires it of publishers when the expected load on their servers will be too high if everyone is downloading it on launch day, but you'd have to ask Newell about that. Just understand that the realities of going Gold and digital distribution mean that not every game will be pre-loaded, nor do they need to be.
Typhoon 19 Aug, 2011 @ 4:17pm
just bought the game now, same as i did with witcher 2 but that wodnt start to download before the actual release date. why is Deus ex started to download now 5 days before release`?

Hello gamersans; we are in the run up to the DeusEx.3 release.... imagine the pressure.

If you are like me - you remember the magic, the captivation, the inability to let go and sleep when the DeusEx.Machina.1 came out.... A solid 24 hours of gaming or more....

You may remember the follow up Deus.Ex (2) - not the same but nearly the great. Fun. Satisfying. Worthy. I need more.

Now... Imagine you are a writer or programmer or artist slaving away for the August release of DeusEx.3 - and you have given or received the contract for the PC version of the game:

WE have been waiting for this game for a long time....
WE expect a lot from this game - good story, good mechanics, good stealth, WOW momments that make me sit back and say - what a mind Cuff*.

It has got to win the gamedeveloperchoice awards - Cuff* the public and feed the mind....

(PSYCHO)
this better be good or JUNIOR is NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY.... (/PSYCHO)

Mister developer.... I hope you get it right.. ; )

Highest regard

While this is all great, that is exactly why I didn't download it.

Square Enix is arguably doing a great job advertising the game, but I personally have reached my advertising saturation point, especially after E3 and all the news that came out about BF3, Skyrim, Arkham City... everything.

And as history -and perhaps experience has shown you, if not just me-, the closer a heavily advertised, highly anticipated, pre-ordered game gets to its launch date, the more likely some preview, interview or theory article is going to unintentionally spoil something (and even intentionally spoil something, given this era of Views, Likes, and Traffic). While its great SE doesn't seem to care much about the leak, I for one want to enjoy it fresh as it was meant to be seen on launch night, rather than surgically replaying 40 minutes I'd played through months prior, fine tooth combing for what they might've changed, AFTER torturing myself for months calendar-watching to launch day.

I'm no masochist.
D.J. Griffin 28 Jun, 2011 @ 2:54am
Deus_sex, I feel exactly the same as you do about Human Revolution. The next two months will be gruelling, that is guaranteed.
Deus_nsf 14 Jun, 2011 @ 6:25pm
By the way, the game is really hard in hard mode, and they are plenty of secondary objectives, and easter eggs (awesome and rare hidden stuff, etc... !) Just explore everything, everywhere ^^
Deus_nsf 14 Jun, 2011 @ 6:17pm
By minor bad choices I was thinking of 3rd person with ladders, stuff like that, but you're so much in the game dude, that you just don't give a ♥♥♥♥ and have a long time orgasm, as long as you don't close the game of course ;)

This game is hard drug seriously, I did only that 3 consecutive days playing it 7 hours per day.

I'm saying that to everyone : you're very courageous to wait for the final release, trust me...
Deus_nsf 14 Jun, 2011 @ 6:12pm
Man, I finished the "demo".

I know that the game is only a beta build.

But it is for now, without exageration, the best game I've ever played in my life.

As impossible as it should be, it is better than Deus Ex 1.

Cities are HUGE and there is no loading times as far as you don't go into an important building, you can explore everything, speak to everyone, do what you want... the fully opened level desing is so astonishing that you just can't believe it.

Everything is perfect, exploration, atmosphere, design...

The gameplay is so well done that infiltration is better than Metal Gear Solid, and action shooting is better than Half-Life.

And this was just a Beta version.

Man, without exageration, this will probably be the best game ever made.

I don't support piracy but just download the "demo" if you don't believe me.
I truely don't see who couldn't preorder the game after just few hours of walkthrough.

I've played it 20 hours in hard mode and it is just 25% of the full game.
The "Canadian" 12 Jun, 2011 @ 6:44pm
@Deu_sex: Can you elaborate on the "minor bad choices" without spoiling anything whatsoever of the game environment, plot, characters, foreshadowing game assets (ie. The Key to XXXX's Room) or ingame literature?

Think carefully about it before you answer. Ask yourself if you were telling it to someone who knew about the "demo" and yet still decided to wait for the real deal, such as myself and I'm sure many others, if they would regret that you told them.

If you're not sure, don't bother risking it. If it seems safe though, I wouldn't mind hearing a carefully considered viewpoint of the game so far and what they might've done badly.
Deus_nsf 11 Jun, 2011 @ 7:52pm
Hi everybody, I preordered the game but because I cant wait I downloaded the "demo", and the game is, exept minor bad choices, absolutely awesome.
Sebastiali 1 Jun, 2011 @ 1:04pm
your right i hate you :/ jk no i think thats safe to say ;)
Femboy Ratgirl 22 May, 2011 @ 5:08pm
Many of you might hate me for this... I think this looks even better then the first one! (Which was amazing)
Twizted_Viewz 20 May, 2011 @ 2:59pm
Only a few months left to wait until we can play "Deus Ex Human Revolution". Very excited!
Abdullah 9 May, 2011 @ 2:05pm
I get the impression the philosophy will be at least pretty good for this upcoming title.
Abdullah 9 May, 2011 @ 2:04pm
Ill pre-order pc verasion it's easier to control whre you're aiming. Heck, I can't handle xbox or ps3 controls for firearms; I bought the xbox360 version of Fallout 3 for nothing(almost, my brother played a little(he chose the photo)).
RedStar 9 May, 2011 @ 8:57am
Does any1 knows if the gifts that comes with the Augmented version comes only with the realese?
Abdullah 9 May, 2011 @ 7:02am
New preview videos available through steam!
aGazzi 6 May, 2011 @ 10:36pm
i pre-order too :)
Hans Blitz 6 May, 2011 @ 4:40pm
Pre ordered this puppy :) Now for a release!
The "Canadian" 6 May, 2011 @ 4:36pm
Don't forget to check out the new videos under the DX:HR store page everyone! Even more good news for PC gamers!

I just might allow myself to slowly buy into the hype now. The visuals during the Eyefinity video look amazing while not making a $600 GPU a prerequisite, the ingame literature looks stylishly futuristic and supports the scroll wheel and... *GASP* IS THAT THE RETURN OF THE RANDOM NEIGHBOURHOOD BASKETBALL COURT?!!

So pre-ordered~~
RedStar 6 May, 2011 @ 4:20pm
Yeah, i guess it was too soon.. :) . Just got my pre-order. I'll sleep happier tonight. =P
The "Canadian" 6 May, 2011 @ 4:14pm
Geez, talk about good timing Frenesi... maybe we should go buy lottery tickets if we're this randomly lucky...

Vindication always feels good though. =)

I believe the way the released date on Steam works is it doesn't kick in until it's close to the actual launch date. They did the same 2011 thing for Hunted: Demons Forge and Witcher 2 back in December during the holiday sale. It isn't updated regularly in response to the latest interview or PR quote posted on RPS or anything. The Steam Store platform just isn't that dynamic, performing on a dime with tweet-like responsiveness. Nor should it be.

No harm, no foul, and I don't mean to sound aggressive but try not to post such a provocative comment on the largest DX:HR Group on Steam based on a guess. It undermines the point of the Group, as it doesn't function like a Forum and won't as easily absorb idle musings and guesswork like one would.

And definitely don't look to the Steam Store's Release Dates to fulfill a DX:HR info fix. As DX:HR approaches primetime, you'll see it front row center on the Steam Store or via Info Updates after Steam launches, guaranteed.
RedStar 5 May, 2011 @ 11:51am
Just guessing. We all know that the release date is due for august, but on steam it only states 2011. I thought that was strange....
The "Canadian" 3 May, 2011 @ 6:46pm
And what makes you say that Frenesi? Any source of your discomfort?
RedStar 3 May, 2011 @ 2:42pm
Something tell me that we will have to wait a little while before we can have DX3 on Steam. I think it wont be coming out with the realese.
Abdullah 30 Apr, 2011 @ 8:33am
Give me deus ex 2 over deus ex1 any day even despite the bad interface and lack of autosave and sufficient ammo.
Hans Blitz 29 Apr, 2011 @ 7:52am
Well i enjoyed the first game's story plot but didn't get into the second ..
Im hoping this 3rd game goes back to the original style of play with the high tech add in's of now days.

Looks to be worth the wait and story plot as intense as the first which was more about the internet and how it controls all technology in the world.

I acutually fused with the main frame to become a god in the first game so who know's what paths u can take in this one.
Abdullah 17 Apr, 2011 @ 9:32am
Is deus ex the ultimate reference for people who like philosophical games? How good will the philosophy be in deus ex3? What could they talk about in relation to their main subject of this upcomming game?
Tyrone Slothrop 5 Apr, 2011 @ 3:49am
Pre-ordered the Augmented Edition for the PC... August 25th can't come soon eough.
Rybec 3 Feb, 2011 @ 9:28am
Please, take my money.
Hans Blitz 3 Jan, 2011 @ 2:42pm
I agree with Tikigod..They have delayed release because of the MMO Final Fantasy.. Google it :)
Tikigod 3 Jan, 2011 @ 2:02pm
It 'Was' around april 2011. In the article I linked which you can check yourself, Square Enix announce they have delayed the game until at most April 2012.

But yeah, last I checked STEAM haven't updated with release date to reflect the news.
- Hλ³ZE - 2 Jan, 2011 @ 3:13pm
april 2011 ! not 12
Tikigod 16 Dec, 2010 @ 12:34pm
Just to let people know who haven't read the news, the game is now delayed and won't be out Q1 2011. Square Enixs' current ETA for the game is "Before April 2012".

It's a real shame that Human Revolution doesn't have keypads like Deus Ex 1 & 2 had.

Nevertheless, we are going to have a revolutionary game in 2011, can't wait!
