There's lots of names that might have bee fine 18 years ago, but maybe not now. Alternatively getting away for something for 18 years doesn't mean anything except you got away with it for 18 years. And sure it's possible moderation was applied in correctly. Take it up with support if you're convinced moderation was misapplied.
Although I would avoid the petulant "meanwhile, Steam does X" to justify your name. Pointing out "hypocrisy" may not be the slam dunk argument you think it is.
Your profile name, you cannot opt out of seeing.
It has ALWAYS been a rule to keep your nickname appropriate. Even before porn games got added to Steam.
Steam also isn't unique with this rule either.
Many sites with public forums or even online games, having an inappropriate name would result in punishment.
