any games that unconsciously became ur emotional cope mechanism?
for me its Snowrunner it indulged my love of trucks and solitude at a time where I was sad about losing my pet who felt like the only creature in the world who cared about what I thought and it holds a lot of memories for me so what about urs?

xenogears on my first playthrough during a time where i was very, very unwell. when i got home from work the first thing i would do is rush to play it, to see what happened next in the story. but unfortunately then i got to disk 2 and it actually kind of crushed me, i was unaware of the games extremely unfinished second disk that is essentially just a visual novel. my comfort game at the time was gone.

I have a handful (in order of discovering/first playing them):
Morrowind
Shadow Hearts
Haunting Ground
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Baldur’s Gate 3 (my most recently discovered one)

I’ve played them all enough times that they feel comforting and familiar (even though I still haven’t technically “beaten” the main story of Morrowind-I just travel around the world of it picking up random quests and otherwise doing whatever I want).

these days no games give me more comfort than replaying hidetaka miyazakis games, the original team silent quadrology, and early resident evils.

the amount of relaxing calm it brings me is amazing. i forget about anything bad very fast

Sometimes chill games are a good break from intense games.
I guess the closest is FFXIV.
Noita. It's carried me through all sorts of times, good and bad.

I'm not sure about emotional coping, but I do enjoy exploration in games, I'm presuming it's the solitude I enjoy, just me, a weapon and wide open spaces to explore. At times, I enjoy playing alongside a companion (depending on the game), so maybe it's not the solitude, but the freedom to play how I want.
My primary coping mechanism is music - it lifts my mood, makes me forget about stuff and at that time the only thing that matters is good music.

If more cope is needed it's booze + music.

If that fails, I isolate myself to break away from everything and everyone for peace of mind.

That said, there is a game series that I have played for years and years and years, it is a consistent 'always there' game. I don't like the modern versions of it as I feel they lack the depth and detail of the older games. My favorite one from series, the one I mostly play is over 20 years old. :steamfacepalm:

I would get mocked like heck I specified it though. So it's also my secret game. :steamfacepalm: :steamlaughcry:
sometimes I play the sims and make someone I dislike and keep reloading until I've ended their lives in every possible way since if I did that in real life I'd be in jail uwu
Sonic Adventure 2 probably with a small dash of Sonic 06.

Shadow was my first comfort character, dude was inspirational. A shadow that guided me towards the light.

Sounds more like a luxury problem.

Not like starting your fav copium game just to avoid jumping into the McDonalds ballocean with kids teasing you and flinging snot at you resulting in you running away like a sissy violently crying while getting on your electric scooter to go to your safe-space, a rage room.

I put on some Hildegard von Bingen in the background wile playing some Doom Project Brutality.

The Ordo Virtutum works especially well, since Satan keeps interrupting.

Do you live in a big dark castle with big shadows sweeping by occasionally and the random screams from plagued spirits?
