Sales, also sometimes people buy random keys in bulk to look good. Dunno why someone would go over 1000 though.
Probably a lot of giveaways. I've be known to giveaway more than a few games to select fans.
buying games on sale, as well as bundles, which isnt bad per say, but when one doesnt play said games, they end up being wasted money.

also noting, there are a lot of "game collectors", whom dont even play the games, but just buy them to have massive libraries.

if you look at any of these large libraries, in "most" cases, barely 1/4 of the games list, has playtime on them.

i have seen people with over 10k+ game in their steam libraries..., ranging down to at least 1000 or so.

i dont have nearly those amounts, but i do grab games on sale when i can afford it, but i also hold myself back, to be sure im playing the games i buy, as to not build up a giant backlog of games that will simply collect digital dust, as that money that may have gotten wasted, could be better spent paying bills, buying food, or be handy in emergencies.

anywho, have a nice day

Why do people spend so many hours on games is the real question my most played game ever is probably RuneScape which I've been playing since elementary school and is a giant MMO. Other than that it's probably the entire monster hunter series and I probably sit at 1000 hours

people play games to relax and be entertained mostly, be it after work, or similar.

then you might have people whom are stuck at home for various reasons, like medical issues, etc.. and playing a game, or something, allows them some semblance of being able to do something, besides stare at a wall, or a tv.

you also have streamers who stream, or do videos... and playing games, to make a living.

that said, there are also those whom spend their entire days, playing games and not doing anything else.

there are varying things to the stories.

have a nice day

Because they have a lot of disposable income.
Some people tends to forgot this is Steam, not reddit or 4chan or whatever.
Steam, where you buy games.
I only have 218, don't be so dramatic.
Also, people with like thousands of games, often have a whole lot of "Free to play" games in their library.

Which are not games, they are storefronts with a game mechanic, so they shouldn't be counted.

u'd hate my profile and the game War Thunder
I just have a few hundred, but I've also purchased many of them on sales. Like getting the whole Tomb Raider franchise for about $1 per game for most of them. I also play a lot of older stuff too, and that stuff tends to be pretty inexpensive. And this is all for an account that has been around since just before my exit of the console gaming world back in 2013.
When humble bundle was good, i used to pick up a ton of games.

20 games for $13 and ♥♥♥♥.
i like video games
Looks like I have 283 over 19 years. Most of them were in bundles or on sale.
