Male otters will kill female ones and use their corpses as flesh lights for as long as months at a time, and try to kill other males that try to steal her corpse.

I think that makes the answer obvious.

Therefore, some clever spiders bring edible offerings to the females and carry out their business while their partners are distracted by the meal.
