Yeah so when food drops down into your stomach, it gets deproteinated, broken down into amino acids. These amino acids serve as building blocks for cell division, so mitosis. DNA is what regulates this process. Other macro nutrients like fats and sugars are used for energy, basically fuel. Whats left over comes out of the other end.
So tldr why do you need to eat? To keep the machinery working.
