The only thing we can hope for, is our various governments continuing to put pressure on the Gabester, to change tact.
And i feel it will happen
i sadly cannot share such optimism following so many years of neglect to the fourms, the moderation, and the state of the world generally...
1) Do Not Engage!!
2) Report the thread, post, or user
3) Block User
4) Move on and enjoy playing.
That is all you can do. Moderators ONLY work on reported Threads, Posts, Users....
Agreed, i know some trolls who try to get others to spam other people, and some trolls who spam people's artwork. I know quite a few users on steam would enjoy seeing that person get a permanent ban.

They just have to keep evolving. As times change, more necessary changes are likely going to be needed.
Any company has to do that.
So, the volunteer moderators failed, and needed replacement. Maybe the company Mr Newell has contracted now needs replacement for another.
It has to keep evolving as the gaming community, political and legal realities change, so on and so forth.
Once it's cleaned, maybe more people would come back and actually use these forums.
The few people engaging in discussions here stand in no relation to steam's overall huge user count. There's a reason why....
