Steam not detecting game updates
I'm having an odd issue where Steam isn't registering that a game has pushed an update. I have to validate my game files before Steam realizes there's an update, and then i'll be allowed to update. It happened commonly in Destiny 2, and now it appears to be happening with Warhammer 40k: Darktide.

It's also an easy simple thing to get out of the way. Good troubleshooting strategy is do the easy/dumb stuff first. Because if you do it last, you won't feel smart.

Have you restarted your PC?

Someone will ask....

Restarting the PC often solves this sort of issue. Sometimes restarting steam is enough.

PC has been restarted several times. Issue still persists

Is this on a external hard drive or internal one? External ones do not really work well with steam and are technically not recommended by steam support. It can cause problems like what your describing with updates.

This is internal on a nVME m.2 drive

Test your hard drive to see if it is corrupted or failing just to rule it out as causing the issue. This could be a possible sign your hard drive is failing too.

I don't believe it to be failing, however i'm not super versed in checking nVME health. I ran "chkdsk z: /f" in CMD and it doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary is going on.

Go to Steam -> Settings -> Downloads and look under "Updates to installed games." Make sure "Let Steam decide when to update" is selected.

In your Steam Library, right-click Destiny 2 and select "Properties." Click on "Updates." Under "Automatic Updates," which of the following option is set?
  1. Wait until I launch the game
  2. Let Steam decide when to update
  3. Immediately download updates

Immediately download updates. I used to use let steam decide, but set it to immediately when I started encountering this bug

Hey I know this is an old post. But did you ever find a solution? I've been recently having the same issue and nothing seems to be fixing it.
