Ragebait farming?
Im thinking about ragebaiting people on steam to earn steam points and thus generating enough gems to buy a car to live in

Pretend to be a SJW who wants all female charcters to dress like Amish and to look androgynous, so they are not objectified or sexualised. I would do it myself, despite completely opposite views, but I won't lower myself that much. Also pretend you work for Collective Shout, for EZ clown farming.

Most of the top earners come from first commenters in game news where bots post ragebait and counter-response to ragebait, don't tell Valve (they don't care)

I think complaining about the clown emoji is the most effective way to do this without being banned.

Be a contrarian, and just be right. When they can't argue. They clown you down. I routinely get jesters on month old posts, because I tend to hit uncomfortably close. In fact they'll carpet bomb me for doing so. They'll review bomb my other posts, my reviews, and my profile.

You want awards make insightful posts, and take the opposite tact when available. You'll either be given awards for adding to the conversation, or awards for tearing down someone's strawman. In either event the posting itself will feel far more rewarding. Then trying to take advantage of idiots.

Really, the reward system as a whole should just be dismantled. As unlikely as Steam is to do that.

All it does is give incentive for garbage posting, whether for reviews, guides or just basic forum posting. It just degrades the value of what used to be a much better communities within Steam. Not to mention being very off putting for casuals that may just be looking for simple help or info.

You can't convert Steam points into gems, nor can you cash out money that you have as Steam credit.

Trolls predate the awards system. They predate the Steam storefront. Trolls even predate Valve itself. The moment anything becomes popular. Like Steam has since going mainstream. Trolls will be drawn in by the heat.

They don't need awards to be themselves, and have you learned nothing from my post. You don't have to be a troll to get clowned. You just have to disagree with someone who's petty. The trolls aren't the ones doling out awards.

The award system actually rewards hyper sensitive snowflakes and their cancelling ways. Take away the whole awards system, and they'd just do something else petty. Basically if you give that kind of person any power, and they'll want to create their ideal police state.

I am not sure if you are trying to argue for or against my point on this.

I am well aware that trolls will always be trolls. My point is only in that, providing any sort of award system for what is considered by many, bad behavior, only goes to stoke the flames and provide additional incentive. While it may not stop, it would certainly lower considerably.

It is like not wanting your dog begging at the table, but you still keep giving him food when it does, thus it has all the reason to keep doing it and none to stop.

A) against steam posting rules

B) much easier to get awards for saying nice things about a game, even one you've never played on steam. Just be very positive about the game and go on about what great people the devs are and such. People really like seeing such posts. And even if insincere, we could sure use more positivity here on steam.

My point is you would just be trading in one drama for another. The thing is trolls are a necessary part of a healthy ecosystem. When you remove the agitators from a forum you get stagnation. If anything the opposition actually hastens the forums demise.

I'm going to be perfectly blunt with you. These forums don't have a troll problem. The trolls here are actually pretty benign, and these forums move at a glacial pace. Outside of sales and game launches. These forums move as slow as molasses.

I've seen forums where everyone is a troll, and I've seen forums were the moderators. Have just plain scared away their community. These forums are a quiet meadow by comparison. Trust me if you managed to drive away what few trolls these forums have. They'd quickly die.
