No more gift cards in Canada?
Gift cards were getting harder and harder to find and today I can't find any. I've searched every store that carries gift cards and no one has Steam gift cards. No one. Wal-mart, 7-11, convenience stores, etc.

Dont know about your side but a lot of the retail stores here just made the gift cards something you purchase at the till.
No card or anything, just £20 steam voucher and they print off a receipt with the code.

can still get them at 7-11 here in Calgary. It will vary from place to place. I know they mostly disappeared in BC because of some ass backwards laws there making them get double taxed

It's just weird that they've disappeared completely from where I live. I've checked 15 places, including 7-11. Calgary is a bit of a drive from where I live.

Might just be that so few people were buying them the local shops stopped bringing them in. Given that most debit cards can purchase directly I can see that being the case. Comes down to itit's up to each store if they carry them, and if there just isn't enough demand they won't.

Same here in Oregon. I think the bad economy is forcing Steam to not sell as much and stores to sell even less based on demand which I think most are penny pinching. Food/heat are more important then digital games.

Back in the 2017 era we had a rip roaring economy not seen since the 1960s and Steam cards were a plenty as well as other kinds of gift cards: though this economy didn't last very long because of people internally wrecking it leading up to where we are now and when economies suck companies hold back and don't innovate/invest into innovating.

When I was little there was a term called being a real penny pincher meaning someone who holds onto every nickle and dime during hard times and we are now in those hard times globally which would've been laughable back then.

Now not only is shoplifting on the rise but aggressive shoplifting where people are hurt in the process has soared. No longer are thieves just running out the fire door with expensive TV's people are being physically assaulted now as people are in desperate mode and others taking advantage of the chaos.

I wonder with the rise of aggressive shoplifting perhaps they are afraid of being rob/assaulted so they are holding the cards back so thieves can't run off with them and hurt anybody. The only other solution would be to lock them up behind glass.

Cards aren't even activated until the transaction process is completed.

Stores are more worried about gift card scams and ransom attacks.

use to sell 100$-200 $ gift cards and surrounding steam cards is other cards.. why is steam the only one their employees are calling a scam... not at 1 store but 2 stores walmart and wal-greens. again surrounding steam is other companies up to 500-1000 or what ever you want to put on it gift cards .. now to buy the steam deck to attempt anti dma test im limited it appears to using 20$ gift cards over a period of time as their all activated at a register.. i have receipts. the thing is why are employees trained to say steam is a scam at the register then?! i have important test to do still .. to see exactly where this dma card attacks... check their firmware steam its spoofed and impersonates a gpu. also e.a.c. should be informed as well as all the other gaming companies involved as this is a active memory hack thats ran by a second computer also. its spyware and malware software operating here. SOLD ACTIVELY. openly and promoted on youtube. :/... their infecting games like rust as well.. the dude admitted to it in camomos videos of using and .. if not all games round the clock even star citizen is a target of their attacks and specifically targeting particular customers as well to top if off .. on top of that ... been tracking all them for over 6 years now. why is it so selective then in gift cards of whos allowed to sell what if one gift card has to be only 20$ sales and 2 a day.. why are the rest on the shelf's then as well as their all the same issue a gift card.. i buy giftcards cause its safer then internet credit card transactions period. it prevents the card number being displayed on the net openly for dma to intercept.
Just bought in BC at Langley 7-11 Esso station

im in Ontario and iv seen them at Bestbuy and GameStop in the last 30 days

Although I did hear something from a cashier "not sure how true it was" that they stopped selling them at shoppers drugmart because the cards were "active" and if someone stole them they could use them.

But again idk how true that is. Its just the story they gave.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
