I just don't get it...
I'm easily tempted to spend real money for virtual stuff, but up to $25 for an outfit I'll mostly squint to see on a character the size of a dollar coin? Is it just so my toon looks swanky on the load screens? Who shells out for that?

Just puzzled, is all.

I don't disagree! It's just that, in this game, most of the time one can hardly see the characters' outfits...

and on top of that also an outfit that can only be used with 1 class

There's that, too! Although I might still consider it if I really played one class more than any other—if this was a third-person game where my character is as visible as in, say, DS3 or the like.
Im in your shoes as well. I know people that shell out money for any cool d4 skin that drops..I mean, if you're doing good in life, and have extra money or it makes you happy, then by all means I suppose. lol But I could never. Even if I had money like that, I would never. Its also about standing out from the crowd. SOme people wanna be noticed. It shows their devotion to the game as well I think.
Its like 2 men standing in a room..! wearing a thousand dollar suit, the other wearing plain cloths..Who gets noticed first by the lady that walks in that room ? lol

If one of those guys is only 2 inches tall, that fancy suit won't help him much, either... ;-)
$25 for an outfit is an outrageous price considering I've had to combine three of them for the Spiritborn to start looking good :lunar2019madpig:
Basically it is just for whales. People with more money than sense. Those aren't supposed to be bought by regular people. No one in their right mind would pay such huge amounts for skins that as you correctly pointed out can be barely seen, for one class. On Steam sales you buy really good AAA games for that price. For example, i got this Black Friday until now, Days gone for 16 euros, Death's Stranding DC for 16 euros, Uncharted Collection for 16 euros, today i got Ghost Recon Wildlands Ultimate for 15 euros, Watchdogs Legion + Season Pass for 11 euros (i owned the other 2), No man's sky for 23 euros, Quantum Break for 7 euros etc etc. Great open world games with lots of content and immense production quality.... Or perhaps i should have spent 30 euros for some cosmetics in D4? Easy choice for me....

^ there is your mistake. If you have bought all the games long ago then you have only skins left to spend money on. btw I'm no whale, I simply have a job and I've quit drinking (for now) :lunar2019piginablanket:

If I quit drinking, I might buy Diablo IV skins with the money instead... but for now those Aviations still taste better! ;-)

Spend your money on something better and get PoE 2 instead

Like i said, buying cosmetics on this is foolish. With the money you can buy whole other games, including competitors like PoE 2. Why buy just to have a few different looking items on a small avatar you can barely distinguish from other items in regular gameplay? Makes no sense, unless your dad is rich.
You get weapon, pets, armor, and beast/mount cosmetics with in-game attained favor tokens with the season battlepass for 10.00 USD. People don't know this?

Not it is not so low. At least here in Greece (EU) i need 500 platinum for the 3rd and 800 platinum for the 4th unlocks. That is 1300 platinum, and since they don't sell them in adjustable quantities, i need to buy 2 packages worth at least 16 euros, to unlock them and then earn the items with favor tokens. Which requires grinding, which is far worse to me since time is more valuable than money and i will need to be grinding for hours.

With a few exceptions, the skins in the shop look ridiculously over the top, too.
