Do you find the game fun? Then yes.
Otherwise no.
I dono what you even mean by ”Worth coming back” just play what is fun for you.
Pretty much this. There is no point to playing this competitively, and if you have played through the story, then the only reason to play is if you want to try new stuff or just enjoy the gameplay and want another go. No one can tell you if it is worth it to you.
Personally, i bought the game and the expansion this season. I am enjoying my playthrough the campaign, currently i am close to completing the expansion. I am enjoying the necromancer. I will keep playing each season to try 1 class per season and many builds, just for fun, but after i exhaust everything, i will abandon it. If you have already done so, in my opinion there is no point in playing this. Too many games available to play these days, backlogs are huge.
The new "Tower" content for season 11 was hype and very interesting as they finally adding an actual leaderboard to the game, but unfortunately the leaderboard won't be available until the mid season patch. So we are getting a new season but its the same old same old bare bone content draught.
With that said its the Ideal time to hop on and play around a bit especially if you missed out on the recent seasons. This way you can gauge how the game is feels and decide whether you like it or nah, before being forced to buy the next expansion which is coming in early 2026. (For season 12, assuming there won't be any more delays, knowing Blizzard they prob blast it in march to correlate with World of Warcraft Midnight release and make charts go brrr)
You aren't supposed to play the game for 12 hours a day the rest of your life, you play 2 characters max in one season, then shelve the game for a year until the next DLC comes out.
This is the way.
you are right, but in my opinion this is not healthy for any game, i would rather just be able to pick up a game / series with more replayability than waiting for more DLC's for 1 extra end game activity, and at the same time i maybe put in ~ 15-20 hours a week after the initial spiritborn update came out and i had only made and used 1 character for the new season and people were still blowing past me with bugged builds from the update release, and when i hopped on the other day my build that had originally finished pit 106 months ago, could barely complete pit 80 and even then, died at the boss because of the lack of damage... the health pool of the enemies in the very end game content is not the most fun either, sitting at a group of enemies spamming your abilities for 30 seconds until they all die
Do not fall into the trap of following the meta and letting it determine what you play next season. Unless you are a streamer and want to compete or a nolifer who wants to nolife D4 (why anyone would want to do that?) there is no reason to make more than one character and there is no reason to care too much about power levels in the meta. Just pick a different class to keep things fresh and get the most out of your investment. Get to play and learn all classes, learn all about the full D4 experience with the least amount of hours possible. Keep things fresh and exciting, don't play the same 1-2 classes every season.
Diablo 4 is not a pvp game, it is not a competitive game, and you have NOTHING to gain either from no lifing or competeing. Diablo 4, like all Diablos before it, is an arcade hack and slash. You are supposed to have some fun times with hacking and looting and not thinking much. Don't let anyone fool you, Diablo even from the beginning was never supposed to be a huge deep rpg with in depth story, it was just a fun time. D4 is no different. Do not spend too much time on it. Just have some fun occasionally and move on.
I haven't felt the desire to get back into the game as I went back too diablo 2 for a good while once I reached level 96 though I was thoroughly sick of doing Baal runs over and over for a tiny amount of xp.
A ton has changed in Diablo 4 since season 2.
