So every time I'm in a game lately, if I press any button on the controller at all the game is
un-playably choppy, like watching a slide show.

To be clear, this is NOT input lag. Simply, any controller use on the steam link causes big skips, chops, jumps etc.

I've tried different games of all kinds

ethernet straight into the router, so I wasn't expecting any issues.
First game I tried was rocket league and it was a hot mess - felt like having over 1000ms ping. I tried GTA afterwards and it was exactly
the same, felt like around 1000ms ping. Sent my friends a video of me tooting the horn with the controller sticks in it and they could all see/hear the delay.

I know steam streaming creates event devices (and js devices?) in /dev/input via /dev/uinput.
The issue is
that the /dev/input/event** that represents the x360 controller is outputting mouse/keyboard events when it should only be outputting js events.

UPDATE - After I connected my controller with a cable and unplugged It the issue was gone and inputs started to feel more responsive.
